Artistic Headshots & Modeling Portraits for Musicians and Creatives

Studio-Quality Portraits in Upstate New York and Beyond

Not every portrait needs a backdrop of trees or city streets. Some stories are quieter. More intentional. More about presence than place.

This studio session with Liam was exactly that.

I first photographed Liam during his senior year of high school, and getting to work with him again — this time for artistic headshots and modeling portraits — meant a great deal to me. When someone chooses to come back, it’s a sign of trust, and that trust shapes the way I photograph. Sessions become less about posing and more about collaboration.

Liam is now a freshman at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and this session was designed to create clean, versatile portraits suitable for musicians, performers, and emerging artists who need images that feel professional without feeling stiff.

What Makes Artistic Headshots Different

Artistic headshots live in the space between traditional headshots and full editorial work. They are polished, but expressive. Minimal, but intentional.

For this session, we focused on:

  • Clean lighting that highlights natural features

  • Simple wardrobe choices that don’t distract from expression

  • Subtle movement instead of rigid posing

  • A mix of color and black-and-white images for versatility

These kinds of portraits are ideal for musicians, actors, dancers, models, and creatives who want images that can grow with them — from auditions and submissions to websites and promotional materials.

Studio Portraits Without a Permanent Studio

While we love studio work, our business is evolving.

After March 2026, we will no longer have a permanent studio space (for now, but not forever!) — but that doesn’t mean studio-quality portraiture is going away. In fact, it opens up new possibilities.

We have professional lighting, backdrops, and equipment that allow us to create mobile studio setups:

  • In your home

  • In rehearsal spaces

  • In performance venues

  • In rented studios

  • Or on location with controlled lighting

This flexibility means you don’t have to sacrifice quality or style just because we aren’t working inside a traditional studio. The same intentional lighting and clean aesthetic can happen wherever it makes sense for you.

Portraits for People in a Season of Becoming

Many of my favorite sessions happen during transition points — starting college, stepping into a new artistic identity, or preparing for professional opportunities.

Modeling portraits and artistic headshots aren’t about pretending to be someone else. They’re about capturing who you are right now, with room to grow.

If you’re a musician, performer, student, or creative looking for portraits that feel honest, modern, and thoughtfully made, I would love to create something like this with you.

Studio feel. Real connection. Wherever we set up.
