UNION COLLEGE PORTRAITS | SCHENECTADY | THE SWARTZ FAMILY

The Swartz family came together for Thanksgiving from places as far as Western NY and Eastern MA! We met up on Black Friday morning to create some family portraits while everyone was in the same place (a perfect excuse to avoid the shopping crowds, too!). The weather started off chilly but quickly warmed up as we walked around the beautiful Union College campus. The architecture here is great and the kids were extremely well behaved. It was a pleasure working with this bunch and I wish them the happiest holiday season!

ALBANY PORTRAITS | THE MARLOW-GROCK FAMILY

At Halloween time, Jenn and Dawn entered a contest I was hosting where I asked people to share images of their children dressed up in Halloween costumes, and they won! Their prize was a super discounted family portrait session and they wanted to have it at their home, which always makes me happy. I think it’s important to document families in their natural environments and it fits perfectly with my documentary-type photography style. We did some posing, we did some playing, we tried to eat some leaves… (well, that was mostly baby Levi), and we played with the dog, Rasta, who is a sassy little pup! It was a perfect fall day and we all enjoyed ourselves! Thanks for letting me photograph your family!

THE CROSSINGS FAMILY PORTRAITS | COLONIE

It was very hot the day that I met up with this California family at the Crossings to photograph them for the fourth time! I love watching these boys grow and seeing how they change (and also how they stay the same). The older boy does not like me taking his picture, which I had forgotten, but once I said he could make funny faces and fart noises he opened right up! At the end everyone ran through the sprinklers to cool off!

DOWNTOWN TROY PORTRAITS | SMITH FAMILY

This blog post is a sister story to one written by my very dear friend Carrie, another local photographer, and I absolutely adore her work! Our sons are just three days apart in age and we say they are best friends, even if they don’t know it yet! Several weeks ago we got our families together to have a no-stress portrait session trade off and it was equal parts awkward and fun. I think photographers have the hardest time getting their own portraits made because we are so critical of the process and often much more comfortable behind the lens than in front of it. Despite that, since our families are such close friends we were really able to let go and allow our true selves to shine through while enjoying time with our husbands and babies! Nearing the end of our session the light filtering down the trees was brilliant and made for a really warm finish to our portrait session, which we closed out with dinner at The Shop (because supporting local business is so important, and the food there is uh-maze-ing)!

CENTRAL PARK PORTRAITS | SCHENECTADY | WILLIS FAMILY

When photographing families with young children it can sometimes be difficult to get them to cooperate, but the Willis family has always been amazing for me! This was at least the third or fourth time I’ve photographed them and it makes my heart happy to see these little ones growing. The roses were perfectly in bloom at Central Park in Schenectady, so even though the sun was blazing we spent a few minutes enjoying our time in the garden.
